Hello everybody, I’m Katelyn Haynes filling in for Danika Quinn of the Actors Reporter. Welcome to the TradeVine. I’m excited to be hosting again. This week, we’ve selected some of the more interesting articles you shouldn’t miss. Our goal here at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with the trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Backstage, July 28th-August 3rd – In a section called “Welcome to New York,” the articled is called “Community Building. How to network your way to an acting family and helpful industry connections,” By Suzy Evans. Networking is an actor’s way of life in New York City. Because actors in New York are constantly attending casting calls, auditions are sometimes the best place to meet people. Even though the city is big, the acting community is small and you cross worlds with many people. Many actors who move to New York attend school, where they often build a strong community of like-minded artists. Also, actors can get involved with the Actors Fund, which provides social services such as housing, health care, and employment information to entertainment industry professionals. Sometimes, meeting new friends can even lead to an acting job.

Daily Variety, Tuesday, August 2nd – “TV Twitter traction,” by Andrew Wallenstein. Comic-Con proved to be an effective buzz-builder for the upcoming fall TV season, according to new data. Shows that made noise at the convention, such as Fox’s “Terra Nova” and CW’s “Secret Circle,” saw the kind of sizable increases in Twitter citations that suggested marketing effectiveness. While those who sat out the festivities at Comic-Con registered declines over the past week. Now, not only can you count the number of times a show happens to be mentioned on Twitter, but you can utilize an algorithm, which focuses on language suggesting interest and anticipation. Amazing.

Daily Variety, Thursday, August 4th – “Original series at Hulu,” also by Andrew Wallenstein. Hulu is attempting its first original longform series, teaming with Morgan Spurlock on an unscripted project “A Life in a Day.” Six half-hour episodes were ordered, which chronicle the day in the life of prominent figures. This new series represents a slight departure from Hulu, which has subsisted mainly on primetime series from its owners, including News Corp., Disney and NBC Universal.

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Katelyn Haynes. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!

Hi everybody, I’m Brett Walkow of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Danika Quinn is on assignment.

Danika Quinn

This week we’ve found some great articles. You don’t want to miss these. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

The Hollywood Reporter, December 23rd, 2011 – Oprah’s wild Ride, Part II, by Marisa Guthrie and Kim Masters. As Winfrey returns on-air, her channel OWN has spent $254 million so far with low carriage fees but lots of rating woes. When Oprah went to Comcast to try to negotiate low carriage fees, the Comcast executives rebuffed Winfrey and characterized her pitch as “greedy” for an unproven network. After that, Winfrey allowed professional to attend other meetings. This rude awakening is indicative of Winfrey’s struggle to turn OWN into the kind of powerhouse she presided over during her 25 years as the queen of daytime TV. Today, major service providers including Comcast pay nothing for OWN, which is not unusual for a network with no ratings history. So far this year, OWN is averaging just 136,000 viewers per day. We’ll have to just wait and see how Winfrey’s OWN does. Good luck Oprah.

Daily Variety, Tuesday, December 20th – The article is entitled North Korea’s film fanatic, by Clifford Coonan in Beijing. The death of Kim Jong II Saturday at age 69 marks the passing of one of the truly old footnotes to cinema history. A man who built up a deep, if twisted, relationship with stage and screen. Like Adolf Hitler, who recognized the power of film and supposedly loved Disney movies, the North Korea despot was fascinated by film, and he collected 20,000 foreign pics. Daffy Duck and horror movies were among his favorites, as were James Bond films, though he was said to have been furious at the way North Korea was depicted as a totally evil state in “Die Another Day” in 2002. he produced several films himself, mostly ideologically driven historical epics, dating back as far as “Sea of Blood,” made in the 1960s.

And, Actors Reporter would like to extend congratulations to Miss Callie Thorne for her Golden Globe nomination in her role on USA Networks’ “Necessary Roughness,” produced by Joe Sabatino and Donna Dannenfelser.

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Brett Walkow. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!

Back Stage, July 30th – Why the Industry Puts Too Much Emphasis on Improv, by Gunnar Todd Rohrbacher.
Ellation TV

Over the last 40 years, improv has evolved from an elevated art form practiced by a tiny percentage of actors with extensive performance experience and training to the near replacement of basic acting training for most actors eyeing a career in comedy. This is unfortunate and problematic, nowhere more so than Hollywood.Rohrbacher has performed on every improv and sketch main stage in Hollywood multiple times over the last 25 years, so with personal knowledge of L.A.’s comedy landscape, he clears up the misunderstandings about what improv is and isn’t. Most importantly, it isn’t written sketch work.Actors new to Los Angeles are directed—virtually ordered—to get improv training on their résumés. Improv has its benefits, but on the pie chart of acting training, it’s just a slice.Improv training is not acting training. It is an acting training technique. It was not devised to be an end goal for performers.

Hollywood Reporter, August 2nd – TCA Journal No. 3: Most Memorable Sessions…So Far, by Tim Goodman.
TCA Journal

The bread and butter of the TCA press tour is the panel/session — from 15 to 45 minutes on stage in front of TV critics and writers from around the country and Canada, featuring series creators, actors and producers taking questions and talking about what’s to come. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it does not. There’s no telling how it will go. But in general there are a number of ways to distinguish whether a session was memorable. Sometimes, it’s just one panel member being hilarious or informatively blunt. Sometimes, it’s an executive clearly stating a channel’s position or objectives for the near future. And periodically you get a session that is simply moving, or the main participant reveals actual personal brilliance or there’s a wellspring of profound interest that springs from a session that looked boring on paper. Check out the rest of the article to find out which sessions Tim Goodman found memorable.

Variety, August 3rd – Chernin, AT&T Set Brand for New Online Video Venture: Ellation (Exclusive), by Janko Roettgers.
Studio films disappear

Otter Media, the joint venture between AT&T and the Chernin Group, is about to unveil a new brand for its subscription-based online video services this week: Ellation is going to be the new umbrella company for video services including Crunchyroll, Creativebug and SoompiTV, Varietyhas learned. While work on Ellation has largely been hush-hush over the past couple of months, its goal is to build between 30 and 50 separate niche online video channels appealing to highly engaged audiences willing to pay for premium content, according to multiple sources familiar with these plans. The unit is being led by former YouTube executive Tom Pickett. The Chernin Group teamed up with AT&T on Otter Media in April of 2014 to invest in and launch online video services. For Ellation, Crunchyroll is a kind of proof of concept: The service has been one of the success stories of paid niche content, attracting more than 600,000 paying subscribers. However, nobody knows how many of these superfan communities actually exist, and how many online video services consumers are willing to add to their monthly bill.

Backstage – 10 Dance College Programs You Should Know, by Hayden Field

“Good Morning Baltimore,” “Memory,” “Girl in 14G,” “All That Jazz”…. These songs are essentially colossal red stop signs, according to college audition “do not sing” lists around the web. But even more difficult than choosing a college audition song can be choosing the colleges to audition for—and later attend—whether we’re talking musical theater or dance. That’s why we’ve put together some considerations for performing arts students preparing to take the college plunge, as well as our top 10 lists of the best schools for each major.
One of the first decisions students need to make pertains to their degree and whether to go the bachelor’s of arts (BA) or bachelor’s of fine arts (BFA) route. BFA programs are an upfront commitment to a more defined curriculum outlined for students in advance, and the chosen major often makes up 75 percent of coursework, leaving only 25 for other liberal arts courses. “The BFA path is really only appropriate for someone who is 110 percent sure they want to major in that performing arts discipline,” says Susan Taub, an independent college counselor with expertise in performing arts admissions.
In BA programs, on the other hand, a musical theater or dance major would be like any other and make up closer to one-third of a student’s coursework. (Again, this can vary between schools.) It’s also usually much easier to double major in BA programs. The most important thing to remember? “Both paths can lead to success in life and in a career in the arts,” says Taub. In the end, it almost always comes down to talent rather than the type of degree on your diploma. Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – ‘Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2’ Has Time Travel and a Cowboy Captain America, by Graeme McMillan

The new trailer for the upcoming video game showcases Cosmo and Kang, the characters behind the new conflict.
He’s a space dog, Brent.
Following its debut at last week’s New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released the new trailer for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, showcasing the two most important characters in the game: Kang the Conqueror — the time-traveling villain, voiced in this game by Peter Serafinowicz — and Cosmo, the telepathic Russian canine responsible for gathering together the many heroes in the game who can stop Kang’s temporal troublemaking.
Beyond these two, Lego MSH2 features a whole host of characters familiar to Marvel’s movies output, including Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Avengers, in addition to upcoming small screen stars Cloak and Dagger and the Runaways. Oh, and there’s also a cowboy Captain America in there as well, because why not…? Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – Disney – ABC TV Begins Layoffs, Restructuring, by Daniel Holloway

Disney/ABC Television Group has begun laying off employees, part of a long-anticipated restructuring and reallocation of resources at the Walt Disney Company’s non-sports broadcast and cable television arm.
A source tells Variety that the company began notifying affected employees Thursday morning. The volume of employees impacted is said to be significantly lower than the 10% workforce cut that had been speculated when news broke of the layoff plan six weeks ago.
Cuts are impacting all the group’s entertainment units, including ABC Entertainment ABC Studios, Disney Channel, DisneyXD, Disney Junior, and Freeform — but impact is expected to be minimal on production and programming. The majority of jobs being eliminated hail from non-content related or operational sectors.
The move is in part a cost-cutting measure, in part a reallocation of resources as the company shifts toward newer forms of content distribution and greater automation in some operational areas. The company is expected to be posting job opening for several new positions in the weeks ahead. Read Entire Artice Here

Backstage – How Improve Can Enhance Every Audition, by Rob Adler

A lot of actors hate auditions. The room is “cold.” The reader doesn’t “give you anything.” It’s “not like being on set.” Admittedly, it’s superficial—the role exists in X world, yet the audition is usually in a small room in an office building with beige walls and gray carpeting. Here’s the thing, though: Auditions can be painful if you want them to be. Or they can be spontaneous, alive, and, dare I say, joyful, if you’re open to discovery.
Too often, auditions are marred by inauthenticity caused by an erroneous attempt to maintain control of the audition performance. Actors trying to get the audition “right” or play the scene the way they want it or the way they think it should be.
But imagine the casting director who watches dozens of actors trying to get the scene “right.” Do you picture that CD is enjoying him or herself? Of course not. The actor who wows is the one who surprises their audience without breaking the reality of the given circumstances. That’s the trick to a great audition.
In life, we’re immersed in our given circumstances and we move forward from who we are based on our needs and wants. Immersion in our world is sensory; we sense our given circumstances before we understand them—if we understand them. Sometimes we’re emotional, other times detached, sometimes we think through an encounter before it happens, other times we’re caught off guard by the events of life. In any case, we’re improvising. We’re always improvising. Life is improvised. Great acting seems the same—improvised. Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – Box-Office Preview: Tyler Perry’s ‘Boo 2’ to Scare Off Big-Budget ‘Geostorm’ by Pamela McClintock

Michael Fassbender thriller ‘Snowman’ and fire-fighting drama ‘Only the Brave’ — endorsed by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence — also open nationwide this weekend.

Tyler Perry’s comedy-horror sequel Boo 2! A Madea Halloween is tipped to win a crowded race at the box-office weekend with a $20 million-plus debut.
Perry, who directed the Lionsgate release, reprises his role as Madea in the follow-up to Boo! A Madea Halloween, which launched to $28.5 million in October 2016.

Marking Independence Day producer Dean Devlin’s feature directorial debut, Geostorm is tracking to open in the $10 million-$12 million range, a dismal start for a film that cost at least $120 million to produce. The troubled production required $15 million in significant reshoots, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer brought aboard to help.

Boo 2 should have no trouble scaring off the competition, including Warner Bros. and Skydance Media’s big-budget Geostorm.

Backstage – Why Eye Contact is Vital to Great Acting, by Andrew Wood

There’s no question that eye contact is integral to acting; connecting with your scene partner and engaging in the give-and-take of the relationship is one of the foundations of the craft and eye contact is central to that process.

There is almost no better way to know where you stand with your partner than by taking in his or her eyes. This means that making frequent eye contact with your partner should generally be a big part of almost every scene you do. It’s an observation that’s so obvious it perhaps borders on trite, and yet many actors don’t make enough eye contact with their partners. This suggests to us, the audience, that they aren’t all that interested in their partner’s attitude on the evolving situation of the scene and that’s bad news. An actor who isn’t invested in their partner is likely self-conscious, possibly self-indulgent.

But it’s also true that there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. There are certain very high-stakes situations that might involve longer periods of steady eye contact, but an actor who never breaks eye contact is likely going to seem artificially fixated, maybe even becoming physically disengaged as if they had fallen into a sort of trance.
At first blush, it can seem like there may not be an issue: when you act, you attempt to enter into the character’s circumstances, then follow your impulses. If your impulse is to look at your partner, you look at your partner. If your impulse is to look away, you look away. Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – Netflix to Launch ‘Stranger Things’ Aftershow, by Bryn Elise Sandberg

‘Beyond Stranger Things’ will debut on the streamer Oct 27, the same day ‘Stranger Things 2’ releases.

Netflix’s Stranger Things becomes the latest series to get the aftershow treatment.

The streaming giant is launching Beyond Stranger Things, a post-show rehash for the sci-fi phenomenon that debuted in 2016. Hosted by writer, producer, actor and “superfan” Jim Rash, the show after the show promises to explore the inspiration for the series, tell behind-the-scenes stories and analyze every aspect of the second season, including answering all burning questions.

All seven episodes will be available to watch on Oct. 27, the same day Stranger Things 2 is released on the streaming platform. However, viewers will be advised not to start watching Beyond Stranger Things until after they have finished watching the entirenew season of the drama, as there will no doubt be major spoilers along the way. Unlike the genre’s other aftershows, which air installments following each episodes, Netflix’s iteration will automatically play after viewers complete the final episode of Stranger Things 2. Variety – Kate Winslet on Woody Allen, ‘Wonder Wheel’ and the 20th Anniversary of ‘Titanic’, by Ramin Setoodeh

With an impressive career that spans three decades, more than 40 movies, seven Oscar nominations and one win, Kate Winslet is the first to tell you that she doesn’t have a process as an actress.

“It’s really interesting how every single job I do I feel like it really is different each time,” Winslet says on a sweltering fall day in New York. “I think it’s kind of like staring at a really untidy room of mess and clutter. You think: ‘Oh f—! Where do I begin?’ The clutter is different every time, and the piles will be different every time. It always feels a bit like moving trash around a room.” Read Entire Artice Here

Backstage – Voiceover Conferences Are an Integral Part of a Successful Career, by Jamie Muffet

This week on the VO School Podcast we are talking about voiceover conferences!

Working as a voice actor can be a lonely profession, especially if you work predominantly from home. One way to get out of your booth and meet your peers, agents, producers, and coaches is to go to one of the many voiceover conferences that take place around the world each year.
What exactly is a VO conference? Why should you attend? What can you leave with that you didn’t have when you arrived? How do you choose which conference to attend? And how can you make the most of the connections that you make?
Joining me this week are Gerald Griffith, founder and CEO of VO Atlanta, the biggest voiceover conference in the world. And Dave Courvoisier, voice actor, Emmy Award winner and president of World Voices Organization and the WOVO Conference. We take a peek behind the curtain at the planning of a major voiceover conference to learn how much work is involved in the preparation and oversight of such a major event. The Hollywood Reporter – Netflix Ratings Exposed? Nielson Claims Huge Viewership for ‘Stranger Things 2’ by Michael O’Connell

The leader in TV measurement cites significant binging in its new SVOD data on the Netflix hit.
As promised, Nielsen is releasing more and more viewership measurements it’s mined from Netflix data — including for Stranger Things 2.

The company released its latest, and most interesting, SVOD measurement to date on Thursday afternoon — citing an audience of 15.8 million viewers, nearly 11 million of them adults 18-49, watching the sophomore premiere episode, “Chapter One,” within three days of its launch. (Eat your undead heart out, Walking Dead.) Both of those numbers, by Nielsen standards, are equivalent to the live-plus-3 ratings data you see from traditional TV. Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – ‘Annabelle: Creation’ Star Grace Fulton Joins DC”Shazam!’ by Justin Kroll

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Matt Baron/REX Shutterstock

Grace Fulton is in negotiations to join New Line’s DC superhero film “Shazam!” starring Zachary Levi, sources tell Variety.
The film follows a boy named Billy Batson who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word “Shazam!” The name is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, who Batson derives his heroic attributes from when in adult form.
Fulton will play one of Batson’s friends. The Wrap also reports that Mark Strong is in talks for the role of the villain.
David F. Sandberg is directing from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. “Annabelle: Creation’s” Peter Safran will produce. The project will mark a reunion for Sandberg, Safran, and Fulton, who worked together on “Annabelle: Creation,” which has grossed over $300 million worldwide. Read Entire Artice Here

Backstage – The Holistic Benefits of Self-Care for Actors, by Clay Banks

I make my living primarily as an acting coach. However, when people ask what I do professionally, I generally tell them that I’m a performance coach. You see, alongside acting training, I also dedicate much of my time to helping people with health, fitness, and nutrition. Having spent a majority of my life in the competitive arena, I’ve learned a few things about the advantages of optimum performance and living in “the zone!’

At age 19, I was in contention for junior Mr. America. By 25, I became a top performer for a prestigious New York-based Fortune 500 company. I competed for a spot in “Men’s Health” at forty-five and continue to challenge guys in the gym who are one-third my age. I’ve also managed to retire from an 18-year career as an actor (fully insured with a pension) and I believe the high-level of attention I placed on self-care was a huge factor in achieving that.
Top-level performance, engaging the individual’s entire being (body, soul, spirit) has tremendous benefits far beyond what you may think. When a person is functioning at their peak-performance level, they have access to untold potential that manifests itself in many areas of their life. Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – Louis C.K.’s Movie Premiere Canceled in Advance of N.Y. Times Story, by Katherine Schaffstall

The ‘I Love You, Daddy’ screening was abruptly axed just hours before it was set to take place.

The New York premiere of Louis C.K.’s upcoming film, I Love You, Daddy, set for Thursday, has been canceled. Reps for the premiere, due to take place at the Paris Theatre, cited “unexpected circumstances.”

A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that a New York Times story on the comedian is about to break, and the premiere was canceled in case it is damaging. Additionally, Louis C.K.’s planned appearance on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was also canceled, with William H. Macy taking his place.
Louis C.K. wrote, directed and stars in I Love You, Daddy. The comedy-drama tells the story of a successful TV writer-producer who attempts to stop his 17-year-old daughter’s (Chloe Grace Moretz) growing admiration and relationship with a 68-year-old filmmaker (John Malkovich). The film also stars Pamela Adlon, Rose Byrne, Charlie Day, Edie Falco and Helen Hunt. Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – ‘Darkest Hour’: Gary Oldman Credits Makeup Artist for Winston Churchill Transformation, by Dave McNary

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Rob Latour/Variety/REX/Shutterstock (9212875bs)

Gary Oldman was particularly thankful to his makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji at the Los Angeles premiere of “Darkest Hour” on Wednesday at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.
Oldman admitted on the red carpet that looking like Winston Churchill was essential for the role to work, since Churchill has such worldwide renown. So he was willing to spend several hundred hours in makeup during shooting, rather than using prosthetics.

“I wasn’t going to put on 50 or 60 pounds and put my health at risk so it was contingent on getting Kazuhiro to see if this thing was going to work,” he recalled. “You could control the other component — the energy, how he used his hands, the way he moved. But if you look ridiculous, it’s not going to work. So you surrender to it.” Read Entire Artice Here

Backstage – Advice for New Actors + More From the Backstage Community Forums, by Casey Mink

You already know Backstage is the go-to for any and all information pertaining to your craft. But now, you have the chance to get in on the action with the Backstage Community Forum. Here, you can engage with others in your industry, as well as teachers, experts, and, yep, even agents and casting directors. Below are some of this week’s most interesting new topics; drop a reply or post a new thread. Either way, fire up that keyboard and get involved right here!

New actor asking for advice:
“Hello! I am a 13 year old girl with a strong interest in acting. The only problem is; I’ve only ever done a play in 4th grade, but I was the lead. I’m in my school’s drama club, but my school/ town is so small, we can’t afford to put on a real show.
“Any advice? Anything ranging from how to get roles, how auditions are like/ how to find them, to acting tips and whatnot. I am brand new to the acting world, and could really use some advice. Anything helps! Thank you!” —nur-aksamija

Determining your child’s age range?
“My daughter just turned 14 and we’re very new to this…We started submitting on actors access and backstage a couple of weeks ago and she’s received 3 invitations for auditions but all three parts have been older teens and I really thought her range would be younger. She’s under 5 feet tall and in person people tend to think she’s younger. Perhaps because the headshot is just her face, she looks older than when you see her whole body. We’ve been submitting for anything 10-15 but she has not been contacted for any of the under 14 parts…Just curious how you determined your child’s age range?” —SG401 Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – ‘The Royals’ Female Cast and Crew Accuse Mark Schwahn of “Repeated Unwanted Sexual Harassment”, by Bryn Elise Sandberg

The letter comes after Schwahn was suspended from his role as showrunner on ‘The Royals’ on Wednesday.

After sexual harassment allegations were levied against television producer Mark Schwahn by former One Tree Hill cast and crew members, the female team behind E!’s The Royals is speaking out.

In a letter released on Thursday signed by 25 cast and crew members from the series, the women on the drama accuse the showrunner of “repeated unwanted sexual harassment of multiple female members of cast and crew.” The letter comes a day after Schwahn was suspended from his role as showrunner on the show.

What’s more, star Elizabeth Hurley released her own comments on Twitter. In the statement, she revealed that she was unaware of Schwahn’s behavior but felt she had “let down” her cast by not picking up on what was allegedly happening. Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – Can Warner Bros.’ Expensive, Long -Awaited ‘Justice League’ Deliver the Hit That DC Needs? by Ricardo Lopez

Warner Bros. is holding its breath as the studio prepares to unveil “Justice League” this weekend.
The costly superhero team adventure carries a production budget of more than $250 million, according to several sources, and with it, the hope that DC’s interconnected cinematic universe of comic book heroes and villains can deliver huge audiences around the globe.
When tens of millions of dollars in worldwide marketing and distribution costs are added in, “Justice League” would have to bring in a lofty sum of around $600 million from ticket sales alone and additional revenue from ancillaries like pay-TV and home entertainment in order to turn a profit.
Warner Bros. executives are already concerned that the movie’s debut this weekend — projected to be $110 million — is less than what they had hoped for. In comparison, last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” opened to $166 million. The film will also face some competition over the upcoming holiday weekend from another big release, Disney/Pixar’s “Coco,” though the animated film skews younger. So far, early reaction to “Justice League” has been mixed both among critics and fans. Some have panned it, while others have praised its lighter tone. Read Entire Artice Here

Accents for auditions?
“I’m auditioning for ‘King Lear.’ Do you think an English accent is required?” —ClassAct

A director will only meet me for the first time at his house…
“I am trying to decide how sketchy this is. A few months ago I found a job posting on here (I am a freelance Stage Manager) and I applied. I got a response from the director (who will remain nameless for now but who is also the composer to a famous Christmas song) saying that he was interested in working with me and to get back to him in a few month so that he can get everything figured out. Fast forward to last night, I emailed him asking if he was still looking for a SM and he said yes. I tried to call him a few times but his cellphone was acting all weird (we would speak for a second and then get cut off but a super loud sound). I email him and tell him to call me back from a different phone. He ignores that statement and asks if I live in this area and if I’d like to meet up. I say yes let’s meet at a Starbucks near you, he says no, that he only meets with people inside his home…. Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – ‘Star Wars’ Video Game Microtransactions Ignite Controversy, by Matt Fernandez

With the excitement already building for the year-end release of the latest “Star Wars” film, the new video game “Star Wars: Battlefront II” was poised to capitalize on all the excitement for the vaunted Disney franchise.

Unfortunately for Electronic Arts, the video game studio behind “Battlefront II,” controversy and fan anger over the game’s microtransactions greatly decreased enthusiasm for its November launch, illustrating increasing consumer discontent with some current trends in the gaming industry.

Microtransactions refer to a business model where virtual goods, such as characters, costumes, or weapons, can be purchased online for small sums of real currency. One form of microtransactions are loot boxes, a type of unlockable in-game content that contains a randomized selection of items. These loot boxes can either be earned through normal gameplay or can also often be purchased for real money. Read Entire Artice Here

Backstage – Mastering the Delicate Art of Self-Promotion, by Charis Joy Jackson

Actors need to promote themselves for success. No one is immune unless you’re an A-List actor, a group that makes up a fraction of the industry. So unless your name is Chris Pratt or Jennifer Lawrence, you need to promote yourself and your career.
If like me, you’re not a huge fan of the idea, take heart: even well-known actors like Robert Downey Jr. are doing self-promotion. In fact, I highly recommend you follow him for good ideas on how to do so successfully without coming across like a narcissist. In a surprise to no one, two of the biggest platforms for said self-promo are Facebook and Twitter, so here are my tips on how to use both for your cause.
Facebook
Creating an actor page is easy and fairly painless. You may even be pleasantly surprised by how many of your friends will “Like” the page to support you. Write a status at least once a week to get started, but if you can update with great content every day, do it. Being consistent will pay off and get you more likes and comments in the process.
Be friendly and reply to any comments you get. Someone once told me we all wear an invisible sign that says, “Make me feel special.” The more you can make your fans/followers feel special, the more they’ll want to help you. Read Entire Artice Here

Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff have already been cast in the buzzy follow-up to David Sandberg’s cult 2015 action-comedy short, which Bloom is introducing to buyers in Berlin.
In what sounds like a match made in ’80s heaven, Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined the cast of Kung Fury, the feature-length follow-up to the cult 2015 short.
THR understands that the Terminator, Predator and Total Recall icon (and former California governor) will play the American president in David Sandberg’s action-comedy, set to shoot in Europe and in the U.S. this summer. Variety – Jeffrey Tambor Officially Departs ‘Transparent’, by Daniel Holloway

Jeffrey Tambor has officially exited “Transparent,” Amazon confirmed Thursday.
Tambor leaves the series ahead of it’s upcoming fifth season. His departure follows multiple misconduct allegations and a period of waffling on whether he would return to the Amazon Studios series.
The actor was accused of sexual harassment by his former personal assistant, a trans woman named Van Barnes, in a private Facebook post on Nov. 8. Later that month, guest star Trace Lysette came forward with further alleged instances of inappropriate behavior.
Tambor issued a statement Nov. 19 saying, “Playing Maura Pfefferman on ‘Transparent’ has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life. What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago. I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to ‘Transparent.’” Read Entire Artice Here
